An au pair program is a cultural exchange program that allows young people from all over the world travel to other countries to live with a host family in exchange for child care services. By contrast, most regular daycare providers have very strict hours during the week and may not offer weekend care at all, forcing you to hire a separate babysitter for evenings or off hours.
